Groundbreaking Ceremony Signals Start of Construction

By Klein Emperado | Content Manager

Through a formal groundbreaking ceremony, the 8th installment of the Estudio Damgo VIII project was officially launched last September 29 at Pancil, Sibulan, Negros Oriental.

Now on its 8th year, this year’s Estudio Damgo – the first and only student-led design, build and fund program in the whole Philippines, will respond to another community problem in relation to the stray animals in the city.

The said project is aimed at building the Veterinary Quarter for the volunteers of Combined Animal Rescue Endeavor (CARE) – an organization responsible for providing shelter for stray cats and dogs within Metro Dumaguete.

For years, CARE has been serving the community, especially the stray animals, as a small non-profit organization based in Dumaguete. Their services involve rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of injured, neglected and abused cats and dogs found on the streets.

Representatives from Foundation University and CARE signed Memorandum of Agreement and led the groundbreaking ceremony and the burying of plans.

For more than two months, the work of the team included building of the structure’s foundations. Added to the accomplished work, half of the slab has been poured with concrete.

On the other hand, 30% of the bamboo to be used for the structure has been treated with TermiteX. Treatment is still ongoing for the remaining percentage of bamboos for the project.
