Two powerful earthquakes have devastated parts of northern Venezuela, collapsing buildings, disrupting power, and leaving communities facing urgent medical needs. The first 72 hours after an earthquake are critical for reaching people trapped beneath collapsed structures and connecting survivors to emergency medical care.
Direct Relief is providing emergency funding to support the deployment of Bomberos Unidos Sin Fronteras (BUSF), a Spain-based search and rescue organization, to assist with operations on the ground. At the same time, Direct Relief is preparing emergency medical aid, including first aid supplies, hygiene items for displaced families, medicines used to treat acute injuries, and chronic disease medications for people whose access to routine care has been disrupted.
Direct Relief works to address urgent, life-saving health needs following disasters. In response to the earthquakes in Venezuela, the organization is supporting immediate medical response efforts while working with local partners to strengthen access to healthcare, support health system recovery, and build more resilient communities prepared for future emergencies.
