Among the main needs identified in the first few hours following the earthquake are the rescue of people, emergency medical care, emergency shelters and psychosocial support for those affected, as well as the restoration of basic health and water services.
Medicos del Mundo has activated its emergency response mechanisms in Venezuela following the powerful earthquake , which has affected several states across the country and resulted in numerous fatalities, injuries and significant damage to infrastructure and essential services.At the moment, our priority is to support those affected by this emergency, particularly those who are most vulnerable.
The organisation, which has been operating in Venezuela since 2019 through humanitarian and community health programmes, is carrying out a rapid needs assessment in coordination with local organisations, affected communities and other humanitarian actors to identify response priorities.
