In the past three months we have been organizing workshops and building ally ship with various stake holders on LGBTQI+ rights. In the training workshops, participants were made aware of the challenges LGBTQI+ persons undergo on a daily basis to help them understand the importance of building ally ship and creating a safe space for LGBTQI+ individuals.
Some of the key challenges discussed during the meetings include:
- Discrimination in employment, health care, education, housing, and public accommodations
- Stigma and prejudice from society, which can lead to mental health issues, such as depression and anxiety
- Violence against LGBTQ individuals, including hate crimes and harassment and access to justice
During the workshops we placed a lot of emphasis on supporting LGBTQI+ persons or providing them with potential options to live better through recognizing and strengthening opportunities to address exclusion related to sexual orientation andgender identity (SOGI) which is key for development, prosperity, and well-being of the LGBTQI+ community in Rwanda.
Through you continued support we will continue Advocating for LGBTQI+ rights in the Great Lakes Region countries.
