TODAY, thanks to your support of this important project, Unsilence is launching a new online interactive exhibit that tells stories, through photographs and testimonies, of The Sisterhood, a collective of mothers, all women-of-color in Chicagoland, each of whom has lost a child to gun violence.
Narrated by the mothers and featuring the powerful photographs of acclaimed Chicago artist Cecil McDonald, Jr. -- the free online exhibit tells of how the mothers support each other in grief and take action toward justice and healing.
"It don't just affect me as a mother. It affects sisters, brothers, cousins, children. So we have to speak out about this... I was fighting this battle even before my son was killed... we have to find a way where people, everybody, takes responsibility of trying to curb this violence and trying to educate people about the effects of this violence on family members and the community." -- Gwendolyn Baxter
