Change a life this GlobalGiving July Bonus Day! For just $150, you can send a first-grade girl in Gueoul, Senegal, to school. Your support of $ 350 provides a vital stipend, school supplies, a backpack, and access to enriching after-school programs. Our local team sees the quiet challenge these girls face every year-let's rise together to meet it. Ensure she steps into a classroom. Your generosity is her future!
In rural Gueoul, extreme poverty forces families to prioritize survival over long-term education. Girls face dual pressures: they are often pulled out of school for household labor or early marriage to offset family costs. Furthermore, as high school graduation requirements in Senegal now include English proficiency and advanced STEM mastery, our scholars face a daunting academic landscape without adequate support.
Friends of Gueoul (FoG) dismantles gender inequality in rural Senegal by providing holistic educational access to girls from grades 1-13. We deliver after-school programs, computer literacy, STEM tutoring, and targeted exam preparation for university admission. We employ successful FoG alumni as relatable mentors and instructors. Crucially, direct family stipends offset financial burdens, eliminating the need for girls to leave school for domestic labor or early marriage.
Friends of Gueoul stays reliable yet flexible. Our organized leadership helps us maintain our core programs while adapting easily to evolving community needs. A four-year strategic plan, annual board-approved budgets, and a 21-year history of deep community trust anchor our stability. Evolution is driven by our female-led Senegalese Board, whose grassroots insights allow us to effectively run our program.
