Paving Stronger Education-led Resettlement Possibilities With RSSP

In May 2026, Skill Path Australia’s Refugee Student Settlement Pathway (RSSP)—a programme allowing refugee students to migrate to Australia to take up tertiary education opportunities—shared that amongst their list of awardees in the 2027 cohort, 14 out of 75 students across 6 countries (Malaysia, India, Thailand, Uganda, Kenya and Zimbabwe) selected are Fugee HiEd Scholars and Alumni, with 4 HiEd Scholarship recipients being placed on their waitlist. 

With 5 HiEd Scholars selected in the 2025 cohort and Zalaan—a HiEd Scholar from Cohort 2 who was accepted into TalentLift Canada, a non-profit international recruitment agency supporting employers to hire talented job seekers living in refugee situations worldwide, in October 2024—this makes a total of 20 HiEd Scholarship Recipients that have accessed complimentary education and labour pathways. These success stories serve as a strong testament to the quality of our scholars and the role higher education plays in strengthening pathways to durable solutions through education-led resettlement. 

Harris—Building A Sense of Belonging in Australia 

Harris, a Computer Science student and Fugee HiEd scholar from Cohort 3 who was accepted into RSSP in 2025, reflected on this journey from being a stateless refugee to becoming a university student in Perth, Curtin University and shared this:

"After getting accepted into the RSSP program, I honestly felt numb and breathless. For a stateless Rohingya refugee, a 'future' is usually just an abstract concept. When I got the news, my brain essentially froze. It wasn't just an acceptance into a program; it was the sudden realisation that my life was no longer a dead end. Basically, it meant safety, stability, and finally belonging somewhere. My biggest milestone has been holding a legal document for the very first time, and I can't stress it enough. Entering a country legally and finally experiencing the sense of belonging I have yearned for all my life are my greatest achievements right now."

For Harris, the scholarship was about far more than tuition. As he put it:

"The Fugee scholarship didn't just pay for my degree; it proved that all the years I spent teaching myself in small, cramped rooms were worth it. It turned a dead end into a runway for the life I am building today."
