UNESCO has stated that by 2025, about 95 Million students will not have place in the exisiting universities. And for those students who do have a spot, many of them are unable to access higher education due to financial constraints. University of the People has created an innovative, online, tuition-free model to ensure that no qualified invidual is denied access to higher education for financial reasons.
This project aims to raise funds to help support UoPeople's efforts and mission to democratize higher education.
University of the People is a tuition-free, non-profit institution. The University does not charge students to take classes, does not charge for any reading and other study materials, as well as does not charge for annual enrollment. As a non-profit academic institution dedicated to opening access to higher education, UoPeople has succeeded in cutting down almost the entire cost of higher education.
In order to remain sustainable, we charge small processing fees for application and examination processing. Applicants are charged a non-refundable onetime $10-$50 Application Processing Fee to cover the cost for us to review and process an application. The amount charged is based on the applicant’s place of residence – applicants from developing countries pay a lower amount. UoPeople charges an Exam Processing Fee of $100 per end-of-course exam. However, for those individuals who are unable to do so, UoPeople has dedicated efforts to creating scholarships and funding sources for students to ensure that everyone who wants a higher education has the opportunity to get one.
