Dear Friends,
Congratulations! We have done it again! Here is how you and we together, have contributed to the UN Sustainable Development Goal 4 of inclusive quality education for all - 120 students from marginalized communities achieved an important milestone as the results of the 10th and 12th grade examinations were announced.
For the last one year collective efforts have gone into coaching and mentoring close to 130 students as they prepared for the important 10th and 12th grade board examinations. Appended is a glimpse of what we were able to accomplish together.
In the 12th grade, 79 students from DSF competed against 6.7 lakh students in Karnataka, and recorded 85% pass percentage as against the state results of 62%. The trend remained the same as 55 DSF students wrote their 10th grade examinations with a pass percentage of 91%.
Here are some interesting facts about our 12th grade toppers. Suhail scored an astounding 97% and has two centums - in economics and business studies. His father being unwell for long, his mother, a garment factory labourer, is the sole bread winner of the family. Our student since 8th grade, highly motivated Padmavati, got a perfect centum in accountancy and has already enrolled into Chartered Accountant exam coaching. Forced to discontinue studies at 11th grade level due to severe health issues, intelligent Tayyaba came back after a year, with greater determination and scored an aggregate of 94.5%.
The odds fought by our 10th grade students were plenty. A Kannada medium student moving to English medium in 8th, Bhavesh funded his entire education through Government and DSF scholarship and scored a fantastic 91%. A single parent child, Likitha faced a bigger challenge when her mother was convicted felon when she was in 9th grade. Despite these turbulences she scored an amazing 90%. Sheer passion to study pushed Uday, to cycle every day to school and DSF, regardless of slight leg deformity, and score a very impressive 79%.
The percentage of boys and girls who undertook the examination was more or less equal, however the pass percentage among girls was higher. Around 75% of the students who pursued science in 12th were girls, paving the way for women leaders. Interestingly, over 95% students who passed their 10th grade exams, are keen to pursue their career in commerce and humanities.
This accomplishment of the students takes us one step closer to achieving a global goal. As we join hands, we are setting in motion a chain of change and unprecedented growth, by including everyone in the process of nation building. Fighting many odds and the challenges of their economic backgrounds, YOUR support gave hundred-plus students a fair chance to go after their dreams. We are very grateful for your investment and your unshakeable faith in our work and the potential of the students!
We look forward to your continued partnership in providing equal opportunities, and a choice, to our children!
Warmest Wishes,
DSF TEAM
