DSF ACADEMIC RESULTS 2017-18

Dear Partner,

It was celebrations galore at DSF last month, as the pre-university (12th) and SSLC (10th) exam results were declared and we are thrilled to share the same with you!

Topping our list at DSF and competing with over 8 lakh students in Karnataka who wrote their SSLC examinations, Tanushree scored an astounding 97%! With a centum in Mathematics and a tremendous passion for the subject, she faced tough competition from Azra who secured a whopping 95%! Following closely with a marginal difference was Shruthi, with 94% and a centum in social studies in her kitty! Out of 80 students, the overall pass percentage at DSF was 84%, which fared better than the state results of 72%. It is interesting to observe that unlike previous years, going ahead to PUC, 8 out of our top ten students will take Commerce instead of Science. A new trend setting in!

In the pre-university exam, ensuring representation of boys in a long list of girl toppers, Ibrahim was the DSF frontrunner for the toppers’ position. A commerce student, he secured a very impressive 97%, and centum in Accountancy! Close at his heels, Nida  (his own twin sister), secured the second position with 94% with centum in Economics and Business Studies. Children of an Autorikshaw driver, it is wonderful to know that one of them would like to be a Chartered Accountant the other wants to try her luck at the UPSC exams. The Science students await their CET & NEET ranks to determine their future ahead. Of the 129 students 85% passed, a huge difference from the state pass percentage of 60%.

Apart from these, we have several stories of grit and determination. Javeed, a student from a government school with access to very little facilities & teaching, the son of a barely educated pushcart vendor, he had limited support at home but with a single minded focus, Javeed worked very hard and scored 80% to accomplish his dream of becoming an engineer. Twinkle and Rwinkle lost their father a few months ago and live with their mother who is visually impaired. On the verge of becoming homeless and despite the responsibilities of running the household and looking after their two other younger siblings, both Twinkle and Rwinkle scored 88% in their 2nd pre-university and SSLC examinations, respectively. Coming from a Kannada medium govt. primary school, Swathi, found it extremely difficult to cope with her studies in an English medium high school which she chose to go to under the DSF School choice option. Despite having a troubled home environment, with her father a tender coconut vendor, frequently rendered jobless and addicted to alcohol, Swathi was determined to change her reality and scored a very impressive 83% in her 10th class. Several of our students face such challenges and fight against many odds to focus on their education and perform extremely well in the examinations. These performances stand testimony to how your support has created opportunities and transformed the lives of many!

As all the students rejoiced and celebrated their victory of sorts, we would like to thank YOU for your vote of confidence, both, in them, and the work we do! These excellent results could not have been achieved without your support and participation! Your contribution helped us provide students access to quality teachers, state of the art facilities, focused ongoing support and exposure opportunities, which played a vital role in enhancing their knowledge and improving their academic performance.

Great power rests in your hands to ensure that every child and youth realize their Rights to quality education, and have an equal chance at a great future! Collective action can transform many a lives, we deeply thank you for partnering with us and creating several new possibilities for hundreds of students!

We look forward to your continued support!
