Universe Study Club - Third Report

By Adriana Gutierrez Galicia | Project Manager

Project Overview

The CEU – Universe Study Club uses astronomy as a gateway to science, sparking curiosity among children and young people and bringing scientific knowledge closer to them in an accessible, practical, and engaging way.

Through experiences that connect science, technology, and sky exploration, the project encourages critical thinking, inquiry, and continued interest in learning, creating opportunities for students to discover new possibilities for their future.

Methodology

The CEU methodology combines hands-on learning, immersive experiences, and scientific observation, allowing students to engage with astronomy in a practical and participatory way. Activities include workshops, solar and nighttime observations, a mobile planetarium, and the use of scientific instruments and educational materials, with guidance from educators and mentors.

This approach encourages students to experiment, ask questions, investigate, work as a team, and develop greater independence in their learning.

Period Highlight: Rocket Workshop and OBAFOG 2026

One of the main highlights of the period was the Rocket Workshop, which provided students with a hands-on experience in building, preparing, and launching rockets, connecting scientific concepts to a practical and challenging activity.

The workshop generated strong interest and engagement among participants and also promoted interaction among students of different ages and their families, creating an environment of collaboration and shared discovery.

After building and preparing their rockets, participants carried out a preparatory launch for OBAFOG 2026 – the Brazilian Rocket Olympiad. The experience allowed students to apply scientific concepts related to rocket operation and launching, while also developing skills in planning, experimentation, problem-solving, and teamwork.

More than an astronomy activity, the workshop demonstrated how science can be experienced through hands-on activities and shared across generations, strengthening students’ interest in scientific inquiry and learning.

The CEU transforms students’ natural curiosity into meaningful learning opportunities, showing that science can be accessible, engaging, and connected to real-life experiences.

With the support of partners and donors, the project can reach more children, young people, and families, providing experiences that spark curiosity, build confidence to learn and investigate, and inspire new possibilities for the future.
