United Way for Southeastern Michigan's 2-1-1 helpline is available seven days per week, 365 days per year, and helps callers find information and resources for services in our community. When COVID-19 reached Southeastern Michigan, United Way's 2-1-1 helpline was inundated with calls- surging from approximately 2,500 calls per week to nearly 6,000 calls the week of March 16.
In response to the increased call volume, we mobilized volunteers to field calls related to COVID-19. Trained volunteers have been working two, three-hour shifts per week, providing much-needed relief to call center staff. Since the start of the pandemic in our region, we have made over 90,000 referrals to services in our community. To learn more about our 2-1-1 volunteers, please see our blog post linked below!
These are just a few examples of the need and the impact that UWSEM is making in Southeastern Michigan with your continued support we can make it through this extraordinary time and be able to provide the help, equity, and dignity that our communities need.
