New Year! New Fish Pond!

New Fish Pond!
New Fish Pond!

FOOD. HEALTH. OPPORTUNITY.

Dear Friend:

Happy New Year 2019!

Thank you for your support last year which helped build a fish pond at Nchiru Children's Village in Meru, Kenya! What a difference you made to almost 1,000 orphaned school children and young adults who live and study on site! Fish is an important source of protein. You're making it possible for fish to be served one time per week to these children and young adults. This is a real treat!

Fish and sweet potatoes? Yes! The bottom of our fish pond is covered with a liner. Hundreds of sweet potato plants hold the liner in place on the sides (see photos). So this is a win-win for the children. Sweet potatoes are nutritious, a great source of vitamin A and other minerals. They’re also delicious!

Why is this important? For our partner, the largest budget expense for almost 1,000 orphaned school children and youth is.... food. So East African Children’s Fund focuses on supporting our partner's food budgets and farming programs so that these children can stay in school. For the communities we work with, it's a struggle to cover both expenses: feeding children and paying for school fees.

Thank you for your support! You've made a real difference to these children with this fish pond! We remain deeply grateful! Wishing you all the best in 2019!
