Udayan Ghar Programme
Udayan Care had set up its first Udayan Ghar (Home) for children in 1996 and created its own model of LIFE: Living in Family Environment. This model enables erstwhile children in need of Care & Protection to grow in a loving family environment. In these homes, the children are loved and cared for by a group of Mentor Parents-socially committed individuals (volunteers) who groom the children with a team of Coordinators at homes, along with resident Care Givers, Supervisors, & Volunteers.
These homes are located in busy, middle class neighborhoods, so children can reintegrate themselves into society through direct community involvement which helps mainstreaming the children ahead. Our children and young adults are receiving quality education in some of the best educational institutions such as: The Sagar School at Tijara, Alwar, Mata Bhagwati school, Genesis Global school, Tagore International School, East of Kailash, Banyan Tree School, Global Indian International School etc and colleges/ universities like College of Vocational Studies, University of Delhi, Hi- Tech Institute of Engineering, Ghaziabad, Punjab University, Lingaya’s University etc.
Since inception Udayan Ghars have nurtured over 692 children with love, care and protection in 13 Homes, across 4 states of India. Presently, there are 169 children across all homes. 28 of our young adults are also being supported through our After Care Programme.
Workshops/ Activities during this Quarter
During the period of September, October and November, 2016 the team continued working for the betterment of children and the programme. The quarter went well with children engrossed in studies for their mid-term examinations and a few corporate engagements. Workshops, being a monthly affair addressed several concerns pertaining to Children, Care-givers, Mentor Parents and Coordinators.

Life Skill workshops
Since, in a constantly changing environment, having life skills is an essential part of being able to meet the challenges of everyday life, Life Skill workshops at home were also held every other quarter. These workshops focused on various subjects like self awareness & self identity, coping with emotions, relationship building, healthy & unhealthy relationships, knowing self, decision making, stress management, healthy habits; family & community, communication and problem solving.
Shanti Home, on a monthly, basis conducts workshops with Greater Noida children. The topics covered so far are Anger Management, Safety and Security, Sexuality, and Empathy.
Psychologist, Ms. Dipti, conducts life skill workshops every month with both Noida Boys and Girls. The topics covered so far include, Empathy, Relationship Building, and Interpersonal Communication.
And likewise, life skill workshops at other Udayan Ghars were also conducted during the quarter.
Competitions
Talhunt, Outreach’s annual interschool competition, was held in NCR in the month of September, 2016 and it took place at Varunika Auditorium, Nausena Bagh, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi. Children from various Outreach supported institutions participated to compete against each other and showcase their talent. Children from Gurgaon Ghar secured 2nd position in Group dance and won Cash prize of Rs 10,000.
Alka from Ghaziabad Ghar won 2nd prize in a painting competition organized by Hudco. The theme was ‘Housing at the Center’. The children had to portray in the form of drawing about the issues of shelter, personal spaces etc. that are becoming major environmental concerns these days.
Visits and celebrations
In the month of Oct’16, Mr. Jason (Harry Potter Star) along with his wife and daughters, visited the Sant Nagar Ghars organized by Mr. Ian, MSW, National Program Director, Centre of Excellence in Alternative Care of Children (India) & Children’s Emergency Relief International (CERI).
On 8th September, 2016 World Literacy Day was celebrated by children from Jaipur Ghar. Chairman and members of CWC, Jaipur also attended the programme. Children presented a play on Importance of Education and also gave a speech. CWC members appreciated the efforts of children.
In the month of October, 2016, Mehrauli Ghar children celebrated ‘Daan Utsav’ with the children living under Sarita Vihar flyover. The children there are being engaged at the centre run by Bucket List. The children not only gifted their extra stationery items and toys to the children but also did craft activities & played games with them. All the children participated in the activities with great enthusiasm.
As part of Art Reach classes, children from Udayan Ghars visited Kiran Nadar Museum of Art (KNMA) in the month of October, 2016 where special focus was given to Jeram Patel’s ‘Hospital Series’.
Mr. Dave (Managing Director, adidas India) along with his 55 team members ,Mr. Arijit (Group HR Director), Preet (Senior Manager, Talent Management), and Ritu (HR) visited the Udayan Ghar for Boys in Gurgaon. The purpose of the visit was to spend quality time with children and to promote sporting spirit among them. Various sports events like Sack Race, Three legged race, and Lemon race were organized by the team and winners were also presented with prizes.
Team Genpact visited Noida Ghars to celebrate Diwali with the children as they used to come every year and celebrate Diwali with the all the Kids of Noida Homes. There were 5 members of Genpact namely, Abhinav, Rajesh, Sudhir, Chandan and Vertika who came along with some snacks, crackers, fruit juice, candles, books and colours. As usual they started with Rangoli making competition and then lighted crackers with all the kids.
Every year Baxter celebrates MAMD Day in which their all employees along with families get together and celebrate the day. Likewise every year, Baxter has invited the Udayan Care children to be a part of the celebration. 12 children from Udayan Care for Boys, Gurgaon along with the Coordinator participated in the event at Tivoli in November, 2016.
The team Genpact visited Udayan Ghar for Boys, Gurgaon in November, 2016, to spend memorable time with the children. The purpose of the visit was to interact with the children and spend quality time with them.
National Child Award ceremony was celebrated on 14th November’16 at Rashtrapati Bhawan wherein awardees of Rajiv Gandhi Manav Seva Award, 2016, National Child Award (Individual and Institution), 2015 and National Child Award for exceptional Achievement, 2016 were honored by the Hon'ble President of India. Udayan Care being the recipient of National Award for child welfare, 2014, conferred in the year 2015 was invited at the event as a passive observer. A total of 08 children- Narbdi, Shivani, Marjeena, Surja from Sant Nagar Ghars and Raja, Santosh, Madhur, Manish from Mayur Vihar Ghars accompanied by 02 representatives, Mr. Shafi and Ms. Uddipona from Udayan Care attended the event.
The achievements and awards are a never ending process for Udayan Family:
Ruksana, Sayri and Deepika from Jaipur secured 3rd position in a group dance in Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Memorial Inter School Competition.
Success Story
Ayushi(Name Changed) came to Udayan Ghar through the orders of CWC at a very tender age of 08 years; an age where children are expected to be protected, loved and cared by the family but, with her, there was no one except her traumatic past.
She walked from a life filled with emotional turmoil into a family where she got love, care, affection and opportunities to grow. The initial time was a tough challenge for the child as well as the Ghar team. She was introverted, less participative, had low self esteem and poor educational back ground. But after being groomed by the Udayan Ghar team, which consisted of mental health & social work professionals, caregivers and mentor mothers, she turned into a more social, confident & fun loving child executing high standards of performance. She is presently enrolled in Modern School, Vasant Vihar in class X. She has shown remarkable improvements ever since she was placed with us.
No one could have imagined that the same girl one day will be an inspiration for others and would rise high breaking all the gender biased barriers in the field of sports especially, in games like football & cricket that are highly male dominant, just like our patriarchal society.
Ayushi’s passion for football first sparked when she was in IIIrd standard and this spark turned into a raging inferno as she grew up. Today, she plays at State & National Level from her school’s under-19 football team. Ayushi has played various tournaments and has been awarded with a number of trophies, certificates and medals. Being a proficient goal keeper she is considered to be savior of the team. Recently, she played football tournaments under CBSE inter school sports and games competition (Ocober’16), Doon cup, Dehradoon (September’16) and Delhi Soccer Association.
Apart from football, Ayushi plays cricket and has an upper hand in art & craft. She has been attending art workshops that are being organized by Art Reach India.
