Update from our Sunshine Homes

By Mr. Rahul Raja Sharma | Assistant Manager, Ghar Programme

Udayan Ghar Programme

Udayan Care had set up its first Udayan Ghar (Home) for children in 1996 and created its own model of LIFE: Living in Family Environment. This model enables erstwhile children in need of Care & Protection in to grow in a loving family environment. In these homes, the children are loved and cared for by a group of Mentor Parents-socially committed individuals (volunteers) who groom the children with a team of Coordinators at homes, along with resident Care Givers, Supervisors, & Volunteers.

These homes are located in busy, middle class neighborhoods, so children can reintegrate themselves into society through direct community involvement which helps mainstreaming the children ahead. Our children and young adults are receiving quality education in some of the best educational institutions such as: The Sagar School at Tijara, Alwar, Mata Bhagwati school, Genesis Global school, Tagore International School, East of Kailash, Banyan Tree School, Global Indian International School etc and colleges/ universities like College of Vocational Studies, University of Delhi, Hi- Tech Institute of Engineering, Ghaziabad, Punjab University, Lingaya’s University etc.

Since inception Udayan Ghars have nurtured over 546 children with love, care and protection in 13 Homes across 4 states of India. Presently, there are 166 children across all homes. 33 of our young adults are also been supported through our After Care Programme.

Success Story

Raja*came to Udayan Care at the age of 8. The child ran away from his home and was traced by the government personnel and was thus referred to Udayan Care for his long term care and protection.

Every child is unique and so was Raja. With passing time, care and over all support Raja’s innate talent resurfaced. He exhibited his brilliant talent & deep interest in football. Simultaneously, constant efforts were put into the restoration of the child to his family. With adequate coaching, dedication & passion towards football Raja shined as an upcoming football talent. However, knowing the fact that he also needs to have adequate academic background to support his area of interest he is managing his academics at school by taking extra classes after school hours i.e. Genesis Global Public School, Noida. Raja is the core member of his school football team and has participated in many football matches/tournaments held at Delhi like Modern school inter NGO- sport meet, GD Goenkan world school football tournament, All India football championship, Pathways inter-school athlete meet etc.

On 28.11.2015 Raja won 5 gold medals & won trophy of best athlete in annual sport day 2015 at Genesis Global School.

The champs’ football wagon did not stop here as he has been shortlisted to represent Delhi in a football tournament which is going to be in Kolkata in January 2016, therefore if selected he will be get a brilliant opportunity to go to Spain and later on to Germany to get Internationally trained in football!!!!
