Age: 14 Years
Child A hailed from Indirapuram, Ghaziabad. Her Mother passed away due to tuberculosis and her father was in prison. She was sent to Jagshanti Udayan Ghar (Ballika) on 14/05/14 on the orders of the child welfare committee from Grace Care Home which shut down. She is one of the 5 siblings and one of her sisters, with whom A shares an emotional bond is also in the aftercare facility at the same location.
She is presently studying in class 5 at Arya Deep Public School. She passed class 4 with 89.86%. ‘A’ is a soft-spoken girl who is being coached in academics by her home care team. She is a bright girl and is generally one of the top performers in her class. She is very active in co-curricular activities as well. She enjoys drawing and craft work and participates actively in the activities and workshops conducted at home.
She is particular about her schoolwork and always completes her tasks efficiently. She is very courteous, confident, and obedient. She is a very gentle and loveable child. Overall, A is a well-behaved and well-mannered girl who gets along well and is loved by all the children of the home, and is also adored by her teachers at her school.
Age: 15 Years
B was from Assam and was sent to Udayan Ghar, Balika Noida sector 72 on 03 February 2022. She was abandoned by her family and despite all efforts, her family could not be traced. She is afflicted by the disability of speech, hearing, and intellectual disability. She did not have any identity documents hence her bone ossification was done and her age and date of birth were declared by the CWC.
Her IQ is 44 and her disability is 75%.
She is presently studying in Cornerstone Foundation School where she is trying to pursue academic learning. She is an energetic child and enjoys all games and sports and hence was encouraged in the direction of sports.
She enjoys her time in school and along with the encouragement of her sports teacher was selected for the state team in football for the Special Olympics and would now be going for the national camp for the Special Olympics Bharat.
She is a loving and caring child and is always smiling. She is well-loved by her teachers and the caregivers.
Capacity Building Workshops for Children
The session aimed to generate awareness and introspection and emphasized the importance of personal hygiene among children. Through discussion-based activities, children explored their understanding of hygiene and reflected on its significance. The counselor provided insights into personal hygiene practices and their impact on mental health. Most children actively participated in the session, driven by the prospect of rewards for honest participation. The use of visualization activities at the outset sparked curiosity and engagement among the children, enhancing the overall effectiveness of the session.
The session aimed to enhance children's critical thinking skills in career decision-making by fostering self-awareness and exploring diverse influencing factors. Beginning with an interactive icebreaker activity, children shared their aspirations, setting the tone for discussing career considerations. Through detailed discussions on various factors affecting career choices, such as personal interests and external opportunities, participants were encouraged to think critically and share their perspectives. The session concluded with active participation from most children, indicating high engagement and interest in exploring their future paths.
The session aimed to familiarize children with the concept of self-care, emphasizing its importance in maintaining overall well-being and encouraging them to identify personalized self-care activities. Led by the counselor, a lively discussion commenced, allowing children to share their interpretations of self-care and experiences with rejuvenating practices. The counselor underscored the individualized nature of self-care, prompting children to explore activities that resonate with their needs and preferences. Discussions ranged from physical exercises to creative pursuits, with children expressing their favorite self-care practices and recognizing their positive impacts on mental, emotional, and physical health. Overall, active participation from the majority of children indicated high engagement and interest in integrating self-care into their daily routines.
The session was held to help children to gain awareness about various issues that girls go through, to develop critical thinking through the discussions and the short film shown to them, and to develop assertiveness to stand against the evils in society.
The session aimed to cultivate introspection, empathy, and improved interpersonal skills among children, fostering better cooperation and cohesion within the home team and peer group. Children were gathered in a circle, and their shoes were placed in the center, representing various sizes, styles,
and colors. Guided by the counselor, each child removed their shoes and placed them in the circle, prompting a discussion on empathy. Through this experiential activity, children were encouraged to consider perspectives different from their own, enhancing their understanding of empathy and its significance in interpersonal relationships. The high level of interest and engagement observed among the children indicated a positive response to the activity, fostering a sense of happiness and willingness to participate further.
The session aimed to educate children about personal boundaries, safe and unsafe touch, identifying their safety net, and understanding body autonomy. It began with an interactive discussion where children named various body parts, facilitated by the counselor who pointed to different parts of her body. The counselor emphasized open communication, encouraging children to share any discomfort or confusion about touches with trusted adults. This approach fostered a safe environment for children to express their concerns and empowered them to recognize and assert their boundaries.
Major Activities
Lohri, a beloved Punjabi folk festival, celebrates the transition from winter to longer days, symbolizing hope and renewal. It's a vibrant occasion marked by bonfires, where communities come together to sing traditional songs and perform lively dances like Bhangra and Giddha. The air is filled with the aroma of sweets and snacks, including revri and gajak, crafted from sesame seeds, jaggery, and peanuts. Beyond its culinary delights, Lohri holds deep cultural significance as a harvest festival, rejoicing in the bounty of winter crops like sugarcane. It's also a time to celebrate fertility and the birth of sons, adding layers of joy and tradition to the festivities. Children eagerly participate in the communal prayers and indulge in the festive treats, adding to the spirit of camaraderie and merriment that defines Lohri.
Ms TD, a counselor, led a session. The therapist discussed Swami Vivekananda's birth anniversary. She spoke about character development, values, and, most importantly, the importance of education. She also discussed leadership traits and social inequality. She talked about various quotes from Swami Vivekananda. She invited the other children in the house to discuss the value of education and the influence of technology and social media on personality development. Overall, the children engaged in and enjoyed their conversation with the counselor, and at the end, the counselor showed them a film about National Youth Day.
Ms. B S V, a welfare officer, led a session. The Welfare Officer discussed the difficulties that girls may encounter in society and emphasized the value of empowering girls. She posed several questions about children's rights while concentrating on advancing the rights and opportunities for girls, placing a special emphasis on education and skill development. All in all, the children paid close attention and actively participated. Finally, the welfare officer played a video about children's rights.
On Republic Day, children immersed themselves in patriotic fervor by commemorating the sacrifices of freedom fighters through heartfelt renditions of the song "Teri Mitti”. With voices filled with reverence and pride, they paid homage to the heroes who fought tirelessly for India's independence. Their melodic tribute echoed the spirit of unity and resilience that defines the nation, instilling a sense of patriotism and appreciation for the democratic values upheld on this auspicious day.
On 28th January 2024 Children visited the National Science Center, The National Science Centre established in 1992, is a science museum in Delhi, India. It is part of the National Council of Science Museums, an autonomous body under India's Ministry of Culture. Children visited along with Mentor Mothers. Children watched science show, which explained them regarding different practical experiment. 3D Show which emphasis the beauty of underwater ocean animals, Fantasy Ride and Children watched museum architectures and ancient sciences.
Children attended a workshop held in honor of National Women's Day on February 13, 2024, by the Skin Range Vision Foundation. The lesson plan, "Bad Touch, Good Touch", taught children about safety and personal boundaries. Children gained knowledge about how to identify and react to potentially dangerous situations through interactive sessions facilitated by facilitators. they then completed a quiz competition to further solidify their grasp of the subject. Certificates demonstrating the participant's dedication to gaining knowledge about personal safety were given to them. the purpose of the event was to give children useful skills for handling difficult situations and to emphasize the significance of bringing these important issues to the community.
International Women's Day is a global celebration held annually on March 8th to honor the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women around the world. It is also a day to advocate for gender equality and women's rights. International Women's Day has grown into a global movement, with events and activities organized in various countries to celebrate women's achievements and raise awareness about gender inequality and discrimination. It is a day to recognize the contributions of women to society, honor their resilience and strength, and reaffirm the commitment to achieving gender equality and empowering women in all aspects of life. On 8th March 2024, children celebrated International Women's day by putting their thoughts on paper through their favourite activity which is art work.
The festival of colours always brings joy to the children. Celebrating Holi in the true spirit, this time it was even more colourful with everyone coming together to play with natural colours, prepare tasty gujia sweet and also enjoying a special meal.
Birthdays of children and staff members were celebrated in various homes throughout the year. The home team prepared cards to exchange blessings and wishes with each other.
Sports are important for human development because they teach important life skills and promote societal togetherness. Each game has its own importance, teaching discipline, tenacity, and the capacity to overcome obstacles. Sports bring communities together via social contact and relationship building, rather than just competition. Team sports, in particular, teach vital skills such as collaboration, communication, and leadership.
The Sports Day event on February 11, 2024, demonstrated these principles. Children, mentor parents, and the Adidas family anxiously anticipated the day, full of energy and enthusiasm. The celebration began with emotional gratitude to Adidas for their ongoing support, highlighting the transforming influence on many lives. The display of homemade artwork and the singing of anthems heightened the sense of solidarity and appreciation.
The Torch-Bearing Ceremony represented continuity and strength, with Ms. SN’s impassioned speech sparking enthusiasm for athletics. The recognition of academic and athletic achievements was followed by an oath-taking ceremony emphasizing fair play and togetherness. The event offered dazzling dance performances and interesting activities. A competitive cricket match and exciting races boosted teamwork and progress, ending in a celebration of unity and accomplishment.
Overall, the Athletics Day event demonstrated athletics' transforming capacity to bring people together, promote personal development, and strengthen them.
On 22nd February, students from Bennett University's Law Department visited the home with permission from CWC Gautam Buddha Nagar. They performed a short skit to encourage and motivate the girls to think beyond marriage. They learned about various professions and their applications in society. They were informed in detail about the legal profession. The girls were encouraged to share their interests and goals for the future. The students sang and danced alongside the girls, keeping the atmosphere light and enjoyable for everyone.
On March 24, our home observed World Tuberculosis Day with an inclusive conversation about TB. Children were encouraged to share their thoughts and knowledge about the disease, breaking the taboo that TB is not communicable. The event aimed to educate children about TB prevention, symptoms, and treatment options. Through interactive discussions and storytelling, misconceptions were addressed, fostering a better understanding of the disease. World TB Day serves as a platform to raise awareness about the global burden of TB and the importance of early detection and treatment. By involving children in the conversation, we promote inclusivity and empower them to advocate for their health and well-being.
On March 22, our home commemorated World Water Day, emphasizing the significance of water conservation and access to clean water. Children were educated about the global water crisis and its impact on communities worldwide. The event featured engaging activities such as making colourful posters and discussions to raise awareness about responsible water usage and the importance of preserving freshwater sources. Children learned about sustainable practices such as rainwater harvesting and water recycling. World Water Day serves as a reminder of the fundamental role water plays in all aspects of life and the need to protect this precious resource. By promoting water conservation and education, we empower children to become stewards of the environment and advocates for water sustainability.
