Anchored in family strengthening as its core philosophy, Udayan Care works to ensure that every individual grows up in a safe, nurturing environment that fosters dignity and self-reliance.
With operations across 18 states and 45 cities in India, Udayan Care runs diverse, impact-driven programs delivered under 3 key work verticals - child protection and alternative care, education, skilling and employability, and advocacy, research and training
Together, with committed individuals and institutions, Udayan Care continues to champion the right of every child and youth to a life of opportunity, protection, and belonging.
Udayan Care’s ‘FiT Families Together (FiT)’ project has a specific focus on reintegrating children back into their families and work on preventive measures of family strengthening in 3 districts of Delhi. It builds on the concept of ‘family as the essential unit of care’ for a child, and the institution as the ‘last resort of care’. Thus, it prevents separation of the child from one’s family, by strengthening and supporting the family and enabling them to keep their children and not give them up to institutionalization. The project provides close and intensive assistance to families and the local community across an indigenous developed framework called the “Circle of Care and Protection” with 10 thematic domains viz. Basic Need & Safety, Household Finances, Physical Health, Mental Health, Education and Vocation, Child Self- Awareness, Community and Social Connections, Legal Entitlements, Positive Parenting and, Hope & Faith. Since October 2021, the FiTproject has been extending support to 90 families, over 500 children, and nearly 5,000 community members across 3 districts of Delhi. Guided by a preventive, family-strengthening approach, the project works to ensure children remain within nurturing family environments while reducing reliance on institutional care.
From April to June 2026, the Child Welfare Committee referred five complex cases to the FiT Project involving runaway tendencies, recognizing the project’s effective mental health interventions. All cases are being supported through rehabilitation planning, counselling, and structured mental health support.

From Homebound to Hopeful: Turning Skills into Livelihoods
Women Artisans of Harijan Camp, Lodhi Road
For many women in Harijan Camp, Lodhi Road, the desire to earn and contribute to their families remained unfulfilled due to limited livelihood opportunities, social restrictions, and lack of access to marketable skills and income-generating platforms. Most were engaged in unpaid domestic work despite their willingness to become financially independent.
The FiT Families Together Project, in partnership with Silaawat, created a livelihood pathway through structured training in embroidery and stitching. Community meetings helped build trust and encouraged women to participate, while regular training strengthened their technical skills, discipline, teamwork, and confidence. All 8 participants successfully completed the training and passed the final assessment.
Today, these women are working as skilled artisans through the Silaawat collective, managing production, coordinating orders, and ensuring timely completion of work as a self-led team. Their earnings are contributing to household expenses, supporting their children's education, and strengthening their participation in family decision-making.
Beyond income, the initiative has helped women gain confidence, financial agency, skills, and recognition within their families and community.
“Earlier, we were limited to our homes; today, we are contributing to our households with our skills.”
Impact:
The journey from being homebound to becoming skilled earners demonstrates how skills, opportunity, and community-based support can strengthen women's economic participation while contributing to stronger families and communities.
