Ubunye Educare Centre continues to make strides in providing holistic early childhood education to 120 children aged 5-6 from low-income households in Dunoon Township, Cape Town. Our commitment to nurturing young minds and fostering a supportive community has yielded remarkable results.
Key Objectives and Achievements:
1. Quality Education: We retained four accredited ECD practitioners, ensuring education aligned with Department of Basic Education guidelines.
2. Feeding Programme: We provided daily nutritious meals to 100% of enrolled children, ensuring they receive essential nutrients for growth and development.
3. Health and Nutrition: Regular health check-ups and nutritious meals contributed to an 85% reduction in absenteeism due to illness.
4. Parenting Skills Program: We run our eight-week home school parent program to support parents and guardians.
5. Infrastructure Development: We utilised the 6m container classroom donated by Breadline Africa and Hyve Events to enhance the learning environment.
New Initiatives:
1. ECD Technology Integration: We introduced tablets to enhance literacy and numeracy skills.
2. Green Initiative: We established gardens and planted trees, promoting environmental awareness.
3. Parent-Child Activities: We implemented termly activities fostering stronger parent-child bonds.
Achievements:
1. 95% Attendance Rate: Demonstrating strong commitment to education.
2. 92% Improvement in Literacy and Numeracy Skills: Exceeding previous year's results.
3. Establishment of a Reading Room: Promoting a love for reading and literacy among parents and children.
Challenges and Future Plans:
1. Securing Long-Term Funding: Ensuring consistent funding to support ongoing programs and future growth.
2. Community Engagement: Increasing parental involvement and community participation in centre activities.
