As we recover from the effects of COVID-19, we face other challenges in South Africa such as: a shortage of electricity (loadshedding), higher inflation, higher interest rates and a slump in global economies that affects our exports in a big way.
These challenges are making it difficult for NPO’s to operate. NPO's are often a lifeline for marginalised communities but many of South Africa’s estimated 230,000 NPO’s are facing closure as funding dries up.
Ubunye Educare Centre is facing the same dilemma, due to some donors withdrawing much needed funding.
As NPO’s, our way of engaging our donors or potential donors must shift to ensure our survival. Previously donors only funded programme costs. We now need to look for funders who funds a portion of our operational costs. Supporters must understand that unless core operational costs are covered, a non-profit cannot survive and in turn implement their programmes.
We are desperately seeking funding to ensure all our programme goals are met. We want to continue to:
1. Provide quality early childhood education for 120 children aged 5 - 6 from Dunoon Township to prepare them for primary education and a successful life.
2. Provide routine paediatric health check-ups for general health and well-being of children enrolled in our care.
3. Provide a balanced diet during school days for children enrolled in our care to meet their nutritional needs for growth and development of healthy children.
4. Provide extra mural activities such as a reading programme to promote a love for reading
5. Deliver parenting skills programme through an eight-weeks training in collaboration with WordWorks, a local NGO that facilitates a learning space for parents to share knowledge and ideas about children’s language and early literacy development.
“Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world.” —B.B. King
With support we can keep delivering quality education to the children of Ubunye Educare Centre. Let us change the world together.
