Strength in the face of danger and wisdom for courageous decisions might seem to be automatic and perhaps are, in a calm and less threatening society that the one we live in today, 2025. These days, n the teen age and young adult world, sexual assault and cyber bullying are at an all time high level. Training and teaching for self protection and wisdom know-how cannot be left to chance and nature's instructions. Natural wisdom and the subtle voice of conscience are largely overridden by the noise and thunder of technology and power-over dominance, especially for teens and young adults. A danger needing wisdom and realistic measures to address it, for sure!
Self protection, and the wisdom of knowing how, zeroes in on the high level of sexual assault and violence in teen and young adult lives through the powerful training of Be Strong, Be Wise curriculum..
In January, Ubuntu Partners Trust sponsored the founder and trainer of this research based curriculum to come to South Africa and partner with leaders of NGO's working with adolescents and young adults in KwaZulu Natal. Cross cultural application of a curriculum developed in North America for teens has meant contexualizing it and adapting stories and scripts from local social realities.. It has been wonderous to observe the entry , introduction, adaptation and eventual ownership of the curriculum by experienced and passionate youth professionals working with a variety of youth populations.
The proven impact in high schools in North American of BSBW is well documented. In the hands of dedicated trainers and credentialed leaders here in South Africa, we anticipate the same level of impact , protecting personal safety and reduction of sexual trauma that is the right of every teen and young adult.
The scope of education Ubuntu Education supports is not limited to academic or skills training. We are privileged to participate in BSBW education for personal safety in these days of bullying that seems to be escalating to every level of social interaction.
Be strong and be wise.
