This month, UBECI focused on continuing to develop interpersonal skills with the children in our program. Social skills are crucial for children as they significantly improve their ability to navigate social interactions, academic challenges, and future professional environments. By developing skills such as communication, empathy, teamwork and problem solving, children can build and maintain positive relationships, manage their emotions effectively, and face challenges with confidence and resilience. With this in mind and as our goal, our weekly planning has continued to focus on Multiculturalism, developing and strengthening specific skills through our activities.
UBECI focused on the social relations of soft skills. This week specifically, we focused on strengthening and teaching Multiculturalism to children, providing activities where children had to identify the different cultures and traditions of our country, strengthening the cultural diversity of each girl and boy. This is very important for developing social skills related to identity, which contributes to emotions, and is very beneficial for children both in the short and long term. In the short term, these skills improve emotional well-being by helping children recognize and improve their self-esteem. In the long term, these skills enrich us personally, strengthening identity globally, and improve mental and social health. This enables the children to create a rich and varied perspective. Teaching and fostering these skills from an early age lays a solid foundation for personal, social, and professional success, ensuring that children grow into capable, emotionally intelligent adults.
During this time we have:
Taught children about different cultures, traditions, and clothing.
Developed English and Kechua language skills with the children through stories and flashcards with the help of our international volunteers.
Introduced children to different interpersonal skills that will benefit them in the future, such as teamwork, self-confidence, emotional intelligence, and sharing.
Continued to strengthen healthy hygiene skills through daily handwashing activities.
UBECI will continue to work with children to develop other social skills, with the aim of providing them with the tools to be respectful and successful in their future.
