Dear friends,
Despite the difficulties in finalizing the prototype of this concept due to different weather conditions and various typhoons that disrupted its construction, the first model of our Kubo Housing Concept is finally born.
In addition to the finalization and validation techniques used in the implementation of related activities such as the creation of a group of limestone brick manufacturing, training of future potential beneficiaries of the program to produce fashion items made based of pandan leaves, integration of an integrated organic farming and livestock here we are finally ready to implement the program on the area hit by Typhoon Haiyan last year.
In the coming days, after deep evaluation to select future owners of this sustainable, affordable consolidation housing program, we will actively seek to funding partners or institutions that would support this project.
Namely, some of this sustainable home will be based on half donations (about 75,000 pesos: $ 1.700) and the other half funded by the beneficiary and future owner himself on the basis of a loan repayable in microcredit over 5 years. The idea to bring both home and provide them with lucrative assures them they can find the resources to repay their micro-credit and meet their daily needs. The choice to build a house of limestone instead of planned bamboo and coconut wood originally, is the fact that virtually none of the victims actually wants to finance and invest in a house made mostly of such wood and bamboo ... certainly due to the misperception that the bamboo is not a noble and durable material unlike resistant rock. However, upon examination we had to resort from using brick limestone to make it more "solid" like cement or hollow brick if we expect to expand and open a new low cost house market in the affected areas.
The draft livelihood with pandan leaf products has been very successful and is seen even developed for international export with fashion shops that sell them out and see they sale orders increasing. You've might be able to find these items in the last Negros Trade Fair and the upcoming Manila Fame exhibition taking place in Manila on 18th of october.
We hope that this concept will be more fully understood and brought to a wider audience in order to launch stable social enterprises with more impacts in affected communities and on the local economy and create a new approach to plan reconstruction after the passage of devastating typhoons in the Philippines and unfortunately it's known to be frequent.
Thank you GlobalGiving for you constant support and patronage and hopefully we can can go further after the visit of your in-field representatives Ms. Britt Lake out here.
