Dear Friends,
Greetings from Leyte and thank you very much for your generous donation to re-plant coconuts in devastated farms in Leyte. The areas to be re-planted are still vast and we seem to be the only ones assisting coconut farmers to bring back coconut production in their farms. This particular initiative do not attract much attention because of long-term impact which other organizations could not afford to wait to report to their supporters.
This reporting period we are starting to re-plant coconut farms with high-valued fruit and timber trees such as durian, lanzones, jackfruit, mahogany, narra and oranges. We also re-plant the areas with root crops such as taro, sweet potato and cassava. We do this through a plant now pay later scheme with farmer-beneficiaries. We are starting with 30 farmers and 37 hectares farm area and will continue until we reach 150 beneficiaries for this year.
We hope that this becomes a model for other organizations to follow.
Again thank you for your kind support.
Very sincerely yours,
Cora
