By Cora Sayre | Project Leader
Dear Friends,
Warm greetings and thank you very much for your generous support to our project to re-plant the damaged coconuts here in Leyte. Our initiative is continuing and consist of growing our own seedlings, engaging with poor farmers so that they participate in the coconut re-planting activities, producing our own organic fertilizer, conduct of training and supervise the actual planting and subsequent field management activities. To date we are able to plant a total of 33 hectares and more farms are being readied for tree planting. The good thing is that rain is very frequent here and we don't need to water the young plants. One problem we encountered is the difficulty in getting coconut seeds to be raised into seedlings. We remedied this by buying coconuts in nearby town of Baybay and Inopacan which was not damaged by the typhoon.
We intend to serve as a model for others to follow here in Leyte.
Again, thank you very much for your generosity and in contributing to our success.
Hoping that you consider informing your friends and colleagues to support us.
Very sincerely yours,
Cora
