One of the hardest things to do is to watch progress as it unfolds in slow motion. But yet, this is the very essence of this program, a slow , steady and quiet progress that empowers our students to one day, achieve a life long goal of obtaining a college degree which in turn opens many new doors to opportunity
Our students have had a break. the summer break is September / October and we are just about to enter the Fall Semester, which begins in November. Our students are both working full time so the break is much appreciated ! Now back to the task of working full time 6 days per week, which is standard in Cambodia and then attending night school classes.
About one year ago, our project report touched upon the chaos of the Khmer Rouge years ( 1974-1979) The Khmer Rouge soldiers took over the capital city on April 17, 1975, 51 years ago.... .All of the schools were closed down. Being known to have an education was a death sentence. and by 1980, only 50 university instructors remained and it was estimated that only 32 physicians in the entire country survived. Illiteracy soared to 40%. Now, it is estimated that 20% of students enter high school, and college remains a dream beyond the reach of all but a few.
Today Cambodia is a fast-growing, lower-middle-income economy growing at about. 5.0% in 2026 and a young professional class is emerging.
For years we have nurtured students in Kasumisou Foundation programs to dream of college and today we have two young talented women actively engaged in our program.
Ms. T, Age 21, dreams of a law degree after she completes an initial degree in International relations. Her strong English skills are almost entirely self taught. For now she works in the office doing accounting tasks.
Ms. V, age 20 also works in the office at Champey. She is the main point of contact for greeting the many tourists who visit Champey each year as well as developing and managing relationships with various tour companies who bring guests to Champey. Ms. V is truly fluent in English and she will study International relations after completing her foundational classes.
Your support has made this possible !
Your generous support helps to make these opportunities possible for these talented young women. Your generosity has forever changed their lives , enabling them to reach for the stars and achieve their dreams .
We are deeply grateful to you for your support.
