By Teresa Rugg | Thankful Heart
Last week, I read through the archieves of updates we have sent you through GlobalGiving since 2011. We have accomplished so much in the past 4 years and it is truly because of you. You share our vision, you are generous of heart and financial resources; you are part of our TB Photovoice family.
The Nakuru, Kenya TB Photovoice Project
Our 10 particiapants in the Nakuru TB Photovoice Project are in their second month of discovering their TB experience through the lens of a camera and by writing their own stories. We honor them for taking the time to explore their TB journey so that they can help others in their community, and push their leaders to end TB. They will be uncovering their own themes which they will share in March 2016, in time for World TB Day.
Together in Cape Town, South Africa in December 2015!
TB Photovoice has been invited to present their years of working with communities impacted by TB at the 46th World Conference on Lung Health in Cape Town, South Africa from December 2-6, 2015. The Nakuru TB Photovoice Project facilitator Alic Opiyo will be sharing their mid-project insights; Eva Moya, our extraordinary photovoice facilitator and evaluator, will share about the process and purpose of TB photovoice; Teresa will share about the TB Voices Project in Washington State; our partners from ACTION will stress the importance of advocacy in relation to community based approaches like TB Photovoice. A huge thank you to ACTION, the Firland Foundation, and the National TB Controller Association for completely funding this exciting trip and for their years of partnership.
The Unexpected Gift!
This month, TB Photovoice was chosen among 50 Seattle nonprofits to be part of Seattle GiveCamp. For 3 intense days, we had a team of 6 amazing website developers and graphic designers help us create a whole new website! We spent the previous month digging in deep to discover the purpose of our website. It became clear that we wanted our site to be a welcoming place for people impacted by TB to share their stories and engage in dialogue for support and solidarity. With a bit more editing, we believe this site will become a "go-to" site for anyone who needs TB support. For those who want to put their convictions into action, we will be able to direct them to our partners at RESULTS, Stop TB USA, and the National TB Controller Association.
Our TB Photovoice website can now directly accept donations. We greatly appreciate our years of partnership with GlobalGiving for helping us jumpstart our project in Kenya.
We hope you will continue your support of TB Photovoice on our website and even consider becoming a monthly donor!
