The horses that come to us from the racetrack are very familiar with human contact and are used to being handled everyday which is a good start for retraining and adoption, however, they are trained to be very fast and to only use their racing gait. In order for them to be adoptable, they need to learn to be ridden under saddle and to relax. This process takes a lot of reconditioning from experienced handlers and is not a fast process.
We are proud to report that the TROTTER program is gaining popularity with both the harness industry and the pleasure horse world! Every week we have people coming in to ask questions and want to learn more about the adoption process, and this year alone, we have already had 6 horses placed with adoptive homes!
In addition to helping the horses, we have wrapped our therapeutic program around these horses and are working with children in foster care with amazing results! The horses are teaching such qualities as responsibility, respect, dependability, self worth and improved social skills.
This program would not be possible without the generous support of our donors and we sincerely appreciate every dollar that comes in! THANK YOU to everyone who supports TROTTER and please come out for a visit whenever you are in the area, we would love to meet you!
