The year started with good news in our empowerment approach for children and young people living with HIV in Murewa. The RMT Board approved the first internship programme for positive young people.

During the course of the year, the Trust will take in 3 young people who are in transition at school. The first three identified and joining us this month are Kudzai Mutsvuku, Jessica Vhimavhi and Belinda Musendo.

Kudzai and Jessica have been on the RMT programme for the last 2 years, where the Trust has been providing school fees, psychosocial support and facilitating access to treatment. They have both wrote their O’level exams last year, in 2010 and are waiting for their results. The internship offers them an opportunity for new skills, public social engagement and confidence building. Belinda has just completed her A’levels at Murewa Mission and has been on HIV treatment for almost a decade. She is a confident and supportive young woman with potential to grow her skills as a peer educator.

These three young people will also be role models in their communities; coming from communal and resource poor communities, in Magaya and Madyamhuru villages respectively. The support we continue to receive from individuals and organisations such as AJWS, AVERT, Global Giving, and the many individuals enables us to give such life experiences to hundreds of HIV positive children and young people in our communities.
