When a baby is delivered at home and develops severe jaundice, it may not be clear to family members that they need to seek treatment. As a result, the global health community has had difficulty estimating the unmet global need for jaundice treatment. Working with colleagues at Stanford, D-Rev is doing just that – and trying to understand the variances by region.
This is one of the topics we presented at the May 2011 Pediatric Academic Societies meeting in Denver, Colorado. We also presented the benchtop evaluation of Brilliance and a study of barriers to effective phototherapy treatment based on our work with colleagues in Nigeria. D-Rev and partners have also recently published on the need for affordable phototherapy in low-resources areas and technical guidelines for successful implementation of phototherapy there—the full paper can be found in Seminars in Perinatology.
