Greetings from the Sihanouk Hospital Center of HOPE (SHCH) and thank you for supporting our project! Your donation is helping people living with HIV (PLHIV) to live full and active lives, with support for medication, nutrition and social support services.
We recently met a new client, Phalla*, aged 35, who was admitted to our hospital ward. She was heavily pregnant with her fifth child and very sick with tuberculosis, a common co-infection with HIV/AIDS. At the time, Phalla weighed just 27kg. Phalla had been sick for months and knew that she needed care urgently, for her own health and that of her baby. ‘I thought I would die,’ she said, ‘I had no money to see a doctor and I thought: if there is no money, there is no hope.’
With thanks to donors like you, Phalla's story has a happier ending. She has since received free care from our hospital and Home Care Program, which has improved her quality of life immeasurably.
As Phalla's health emergency passed and her condition became more stable, she enrolled in our Home Care Program and received follow up care, counseling and social assistance at home. After six months of support, Phalla has now returned to part-time work as a cleaner and can help to earn an income for her family. With help from our Home Care team, Phalla has also learnt about safe feeding practices for her new baby, and her weight has gone up to 42kg.
‘I’m so grateful and relieved,’ she said. ‘You have saved my life. Without you, I might have died and my children would not have a mother. Now I have hope and a new life.’
This remarkable transformation is possible because people like you supported our work. We are deeply grateful for your contribution.
Thank you for your support.
