Africa Exchange Project is working to imprive the use of computeres and digital learning at the primary and secondary schools in Pomerini, Tanzania.
Our aim is to provide 40 computers, to dramatically improve students' access to the vast library of over 50,000 digital textbooks now freely available to primary and secondary school students in rural Tanzania, and to take advantage of the plethora of educational, research and training resources available online.
Following setting up the primary and secondary schools with internet access and providing six refurbished Microsift Surface laptops, we have been seeing greater engagement from the special needs students.
We just returned from a visit to Pomerini village, where we delivered are four refurbished Apple Air laptops and one refurbished Microsoft Surface laptop. The laptops were given to the Secondary School for use in the Science Center and to the Kindergarten.
During our visit we became acutely aware of the need for new coputers to replace those in the ICT Lab (onyl 7 out of 25 are in working order), and of enormous benefit computers are to special needs students, wheere they are smiply the difference between a child being able to particpate or not.
We are looking to transform the learning environment for students, increase learning and training opportunities for teachers, and help to prepare students for their future by enabling them to develop the computer skills essential to their future success and their participation in Tanzania's transformation from a predominantly agricultural, rural society to a more diversified modern, multi-sector economy.
