Dear friends and supporters,
Earlier this year, we donated two industrial sewing machines to vulnerable single mothers and successfully conducted a Bag Making Livelihood Training in collaboration with the Southern Province Industrial Development Authority. Held over five days at the Badungoda training centre in Galle, the program provided comprehensive knowledge and skills to eleven women participants. The training covered everything from the basics of bag making to setting up and operating sewing machines.
The impact of this training project has been significant as listed below:
Empowering Livelihood: The women gained essential knowledge to develop their livelihood and enhance their existing bag sewing businesses.
Expanding Business Opportunities: Participants who were not previously involved in bag sewing learned valuable skills to start and grow their own bag-making enterprises.
Diversifying Skills: Many women were only familiar with sewing cloth handbags, but through this training, they acquired expertise in sewing school bags, backpacks, and Rexing bags. This expanded their business prospects and opened doors to new customers.
Boosting Confidence: Trainees reported increased self-confidence as a result of acquiring new knowledge. Some participants have already received new orders for school bags, validating their skills and boosting their confidence further.
Empowering Women: The training program empowered women by providing systematic guidance from start to finish. This enhanced their efficiency, productivity, and overall value as bag-makers. The certification they received further adds credibility to their work, helping to gain customer trust.
Market Awareness: Trainees developed an understanding of their abilities and discovered new market opportunities, allowing them to diversify their product range and increase their income.
Overcoming Financial Difficulties: By expanding their bag-making skills and income, women participants can overcome financial challenges they previously faced, supporting their children's nutrition and education.
Overall, this Bag Making Livelihood Training has had a profound impact on the lives of the participants, enabling them to enhance their skills, expand their businesses, and improve their financial well-being. We are grateful for the support of the Southern Province Industrial Development Authority and the commitment of the TFT team to making this training a success.
Since this training took place, our Project Manager Roshan who conducted the training had a meeting with a local bank manager, he promised to provide loan facilities to all the women with the aim of developing their businesses.
Together, we will continue to uplift communities and create opportunities for sustainable growth and prosperity.
Yours sincerely,
Joel
