Transform lives of 25 poor rural children in India

The academic year 2018-19 brought in new challenges and experiences not only in the field of education but extra-curricular too. The students actively participated in all the activities involved and gracefully many of them excelled in some of them.

Apart from participation in extracurricular programs, the children did very well in the academics. With the Board exams standing round the corner, all the kids are busy preparing for them.

Teachers have always been a support for the students encouraging and guiding them through. Teachers worked hard in setting question papers for the children that has helped them prepare for the final examinations.

Main Events

• On 21^st June 2018, students participated in Yoga Day held at FRI, Dehradun. Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi led around 50,000 people to mark this fourth edition of International Yoga Day. 250 students from PYDS enthusiastically joined him and performed various Yoga Asanas. The enthusiasm and excitement was visible on their faces and they enjoyed the whole event.
• 8 of August, 2018 was a very special day for PYDS. We completed 15 years of existence as a registered Society although have been in service for more than two decades. This day is treated as the birthday of our Society. We planted 15 trees on this occasion at our newly acquired property where we are intending to build a hostel from Class 6 upwards.
• The Independence Day celebrations on 15th August witnessed enthusiastic participation from all students and teachers.
• The 10^th PYDS Annual Sports Day was held in early October. Track and field events were held in the sports ground of Kasiga School close to our campus. House-wise competitions in basketball, volleyball, badminton, kabaddi and kho-kho also witnessed a true sportsmanship.
• The school celebrated its Annual Day on 28^th October where The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Shri Trivendra Singh Rawat marked his presence as the Chief Guest for the event. He inaugurated the Tinkering Laboratory in the school, a NITI Aayog, GoI initiative for STEM studies. With Sanskrit known to be the State’s second official language, the students performed a Sanskrit dance-drama based on Kalidasa’s Vikramorvasiyam which was the highlight of the event.
• Diwali was celebrated with the theme Spirit of Unity which was reflected in the beautiful and colourful Rangolis made by the children. Candles were lit and the children enjoyed the festivity in ethnic attire ending the day with special dinner prepared for the festive day.

Education

• Class 12 students participated in English, Computer, Science and Math Olympiads.
• Sakshi and Aditi participated in PBISE examination in which Aditi qualified for the 2^nd level.
• Omansh, Kajal and Durgesh joined Aviral Classes for the preparation for NEET examination
• Sagar and Aman appeared for NDA exam and it was a great learning experience for them.
• Sagar also appeared for JEE examination and got 50% marks in his first attempt. He is preparing to appear for the second time in April.
• Omansh participated in Olympiads like NSO, IEO, EMO and ICO and achieved international rank of 942 in IEO (International English Olympiad)
• Manu got 65% in JEE examination and was also selected for second level IMO (International Mathematical Olympiad).
• Durgesh scored 72% in JEE entrance exam.
• Tanuja joined the coaching of Design Step and appeared for the exam of NID (National Institute of Designing)

Educational Trips

• Students went to DRDO (Defence Research & Development Organization) on National Science Day at Raipur and saw the equipment used in military.
• Class 12 students went on a trekking trip to Landour, Mussoorie for three days in April.

Achievements

• Sakshi and Aditi stood 1^st in the Sanskrit Bharti Dance Competition. They also grabbed 1^st position in Block, District and State levels.
• Neelam participated in a Hindi Essay Competition grabbed 2^nd rank.
• Omansh received Library Achievement Award and the Best Scholar for the year 2017-18.
• Kajal won silver medal in under – 18 District Volleyball Tournament at Tula’s International School.
• Kiran won the 1^st prize in Hindi Essay Writing Competition on the birthday of Mr. Vikram Sarabhai on 12^th August.

Co – curricular Activities

• The students were a part of Career Fest held at Doon School, Dehradun. The students were told about different Universities where they can apply for further studies.
• Students went for the opening and closing ceremony of Round Square Conference at The Doon School.
• Science exhibition was conducted at DIT University where World Technology Day was celebrated. Class 12 students actively participated in the exhibition and even participated in quiz.
• Kajal and Kiran participated in Toastmaster event at WIC and were the demo speaker for their evaluation competition.
• Students participated in G.K. quiz at Scholars Home School.

School Activities

• The students enthusiastically participated in all the sports event conducted at school.
• Students are the active members of Gavels Club at School in which students speak on a given topic and audience evaluates the speaker for their grammar, vocabulary and confidence level. This activity encourages students for public speaking.  
• Aditi was elected as the school captain and Kajal was elected as Kachnar house (Red House) captain.

The students are preparing for their practical exams and soon will be appearing for their board examination.
