POETA - Partnership for Economic Opportunities through Technology in the Americas, understands the challenges of our beneficiaries with disabilities to develop professional skills. Therefore, POETA works within these defiances to create skilled workers to satisfy the labor demand in Brazil.

Thank to your support, the youth participants have been capable of continue their education to build a better future. As you know, our partner AVAPE provides infrastructure and the necessary personnel to run a sophisticated and complete educational program. They also care about the sustainability of the center through different projects to keep the results in a continued way in the time. Their actions allow people like Eder to create new dreams that can give him a better quality life.

Eder is a 20 years old young man who become part of POETA in September 2014 through the AVAPE learning program. He focused in obtain IT skills such as how to use Word, basic Excel, among others, software that has been donated by Microsoft. In the same time, he was participating in the job readiness training and earned an honor mention. Finally, he finished his training process with the course “personal finance” that provide skills to create a basic financial planning based on real personal situations to provide solutions mainly for the participant familiar and personnel environment.

Nowadays, Eder is proud to apply all the knowledge and skills he got into the POETA Program. He become an active member of his community and obtained a job to support his family in different ways. For Eder, the most important thing he could achieved in POETA Program was the ability to establish professional relationships in a proper way, allowing him discover new skills and also giving him the chance to get confidence to face job interviews. About the future, Eder tells us “I feel ready to manage my finances and income, it was so important for me to learn how to save money, how to build a budget and control my expenses, now I am ready to face the challenges and the opportunities of a job”.

Since its creation in 2004, POETA has supported more than 161 training centers that have allowed more than 103,000 participants to develop the skills and attitudes to take on new roles within the economy and society.

Thanks to your help, The Trust for the Americas has been able to train more than 379 youth in Brazil. We kindly invite you to keep supporting our efforts to bring more and new opportunities for the youth in Latin-American and the Caribbean.
