Computer Training is a Hit!

By Amy Ostroff | President, Love to Langa

Love to Langa recently co-sponsored computer training for early education 20 teachers in Mfuleni Township. Board member, Kissmea Adams, organized the training and here is a report from her.
"Before the computer training the participants had no computer knowledge. Six months later, the the participants are now computer literate.

The teachers are now able to do the following:
- Depending on the theme for the week, teachers are able to design their own posters, searching the internet for whatever they need.  They design and develop their posters independently.  They are confident enough to use their own personal usbs (kindly supplied to them by Love to Langa) to copy their work and then take it to the printers.
-  Teachers took their knowledge a step further to design and develop actual class activites/materials to use in the classroom e.g. puzzles, matching games.  They searched the internet for pictures relevant to their topic, copied and saved to their usbs. It was then taken to the printers, printed and used to complete their class materials.
-  Teachers are able to design their own end of term progress reports, class registers in excel, menus and parent letters.
I was told by them that they never leave home without their usbs.  When they have their lunch hour at school, instead of having a lunch time snooze, they now nip up to the computer room.  The laptops are set up so that it never saves anything, so hence their usbs are perfect! We are so grateful to Love to Langa donors who make programs like this possible."
