Project Report | Jun 17, 2026
Preventive Education for Rural Schools in Chiapas

By Leticia Aguilar | Project Leader

Dear partners and donors,
We present our progress report with gratitude for your support. During this period, we successfully trained 580 Tsotsil boys and girls from the Highlands of Chiapas in oral hygiene and healthy eating. Thank you for trusting in our mission.

Executive Summary

The project successfully delivered 30 educational workshops, directly impacting 580 indigenous children in Los Altos de Chiapas. During this period, the second training cycle (Workshop 2 of 2) was completed in 15 priority schools within the municipalities of Chenalhó and Zinacantán. This milestone allowed the team to evaluate baseline learning outcomes and the adoption of healthy habits within both the schools and the beneficiaries' homes.

Project Objective

To strengthen attitudes, habits, and knowledge for a healthy life in rural communities of Los Altos de Chiapas, actively involving children (preschool, primary, and secondary levels), mothers, and allied women's groups (Majomut and Codimuj).

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Total Direct Beneficiaries: 580 unique students (286 girls and 294 boys).
  • Workshops Conducted: 30 total workshops (15 on Nutrition and 15 on Oral Hygiene).
  • Schools Served: 15 basic education centers (7 preschools and 8 primary schools).
  • Geographical Coverage: 2 municipalities (Zinacantán and Chenalhó).

Core Strategies & Results

Strategy 1: Healthy Habits Training Cycle (Preschool & Primary)

The strategy operates on a consecutive two-year design: Workshop 1 (2024-2025 School Year) introduced core concepts, while Workshop 2 (2025-2026 School Year) evaluates and consolidates behavioral changes in school and family environments.

Component A: Healthy Nutrition

  • Activities: Implementation of Workshop 2, focusing on validating and tracking dietary improvements.
  • Timeline: Phase I in September 2025 (15 schools); Phase II from January to March 2026 (focused on 6 schools).
  • Communities Served: Tierra Blanca (Zinacantán Municipality), Bachen, Poconichim, and Naranjatic Alto (Chenalhó Municipality).
  • Attendance: 580 participants (286 girls / 294 boys).

Component B: Oral Health & Hygiene

  • Activities: Implementation of Workshop 2, focusing on proper toothbrushing techniques and consistency.
  • Timeline: Executed in parallel with the nutrition component (September 2025 – March 2026).
  • Communities Served: Tierra Blanca (Zinacantán Municipality), Bachen, Poconichim, and Naranjatic Alto (Chenalhó Municipality).
  • Attendance: 580 participants (285 girls / 295 boys).}

Together, we continue to build a healthier future for the children of Chiapas; thank you very much for your valuable support!

Estimados aliados y donantes:

  • Escuelas Atendidas: 15 centros escolares básicos (7 preescolares y 8 primarias).
