Dear donors and all readers,

We are happy to show the recent progress in the project you are making possible.  The advances come from collaborating with several organizations – Haitian and international – on solar and biogas for cooking and fertilizer.  In the past months our work has expanded and new partnerships have grown.

In late 2017, when the GlobalGiving project was getting underway, the Vice-Rector and a group of students at the Université Notre Dame d’Haiti in the town of Hinche became enthusiastic about the innovations proposed.  It was a natural fit, as the main specialties there are biosciences and nursing, and the Vice-Rector is a champion on environmental and social justice concerns.

The attached May 31 edition of the PPAF newsletter highlights the activities of the student committee.   Members prepare feasts cooked on solar ovens and biogas, maintain one biodigester and have built another, have created a garden fertilized from the biodigesters, and host a Facebook page and a What’s App site for the group to interact, show their progress and receive advice.  Most recently they have conducted outreach at schools and radio stations in Hinche, and organized a Science Day, held June 2, to explain and advertise the work of recent months.  PPAF, with your support, has contributed with cash and commentary, including to a study tour by the Vice-Rector and the student committee leader to Patel College/USF and ECHO Global Farm in Florida, and to the June 2 Science Day.  In the latter case, PPAF contributed both to the event itself and to travel costs by one of the speakers.

Our second report alerted and invited you to the seminar we were organizing in New York in March in relation to the UN Commission on the Status of Women.  The attached newsletter of March 25 gives details on that event.  Panelists from our group of collaborating organizations made excellent presentations to a lively room-full of participants.

Under PPAF’s GlobalGiving project we are to work with others to implement, monitor and advocate non-polluting cookstoves and local fuels in Haiti.  As seen, we are engaging local groups, documenting innovations, assessing challenges & successes, publicizing results and promoting expansion.  Thanks for your support!
