Our Save the Royal Hedgehogs project is at a standstill in Regent's Park! As explained in our last report, ZSL and HS2 are still to find a compromise that might preserve the small, declining hedgehog population in Regent's Park from the consequences of HS2 development in the area.
But we can all still do many things to help our hedgehogs!
You will find some clever ideas to encourage hedgehogs in your garden, and to help them when you visit the Parks, in the well-documented newspaper article links below. There are also tips on how to make your garden, or window-boxes, more eco-friendly.
Until the HS2 dispute is settled, we at Smart Earth Network continue work on other opportunities for new generation bio-trackers, applicable not only to this programme but to the conservation of other species, and in many other locations. A network of technical collaborators is being formed and a new generation of bio-trackers is in the pipeline that will help transform the way problems facing wildlife today can be tackled and solved.
So let's not be discouraged about this setback in Regent's Park. Our work continues, and the many hedgehog enthusiasts, eminent wildlife scientists, the Royal Parks and other associations are actively pursuing their efforts to protect 'Britain's most-loved wild animal'.
Because you have expressed your interest in this project and your concern for nature conservation, please link up to the SEN website and join (no fees or engagement) and see more updates on both conservation issues and technical ideas to help preserve nature.
