The hedgehog population in Regent’s Park that was being tracked by the Royal Parks Foundation is now under threat due to the proposed use by the HS2 programme of their habitat as a lorry park (see eye-opening articles attached) and the RPF have temporarily suspended their tracking plans while looking for solutions. After various campaigns by the Zoological Society of London, the British Hedgehog Preservation Society and others (and even humorous drawings such as our caption illustration taken from Richard Littlejohn’s polemic article in MailOnline), HS2 are now having to consider the risks to the hedgehogs and their habitat and present their findings to ZSL in a new mitigation proposal.
Meanwhile, we at Smart Earth Network are in discussions with other potential hedgehog conservation partners to continue the work in another area. Watch this space for some exciting news to come.
