We began our school year with a bang! We hit over 200 bags sent home over the weekend after the first month of school. The uncertainity of the SNAP benefits have had parents sign up their children for a bag of food for the weekend. They want to make sure their children do not go without. The Collinsville Food Pantry also wants to make sure that all children who need the program, will recieve it. This is a costly program sending food out weekly. We cycle through 4 menus and they range from $5-7 dollars per bag. It seems small until you start adding up to 200+ bags every week. We help at all our schools, public and private. All the way up to the high school. Hunger is a real issue in the United States. Most of our children rely on the breakfast and lunch that is served at school. The weekends can be rough, so the Collinsville Food Pantry wants to help with sending home food for each child.
