Voices Without Borders: LGBTQ+ Rights Awareness Micro-Campaign
Location: Nigeria. Focus: secure online outreach + small trusted community circles
Duration: 3 Months
Project Objective:
Raise awareness and provide safe support for LGBTQ+ Nigerians through low-cost digital content, discreet peer support, and resource sharing that prioritizes safety and mental wellbeing.
Background:
LGBTQ+ people in Nigeria face legal risks under the 2014 Same-Sex Marriage Prohibition Act, plus stigma and limited access to healthcare. Because public advocacy is unsafe, digital tools offer a vital way to share information, reduce isolation, and connect people to vetted support without physical exposure.
Project Activities:
1. Digital Awareness Campaig
Post infographics on rights, mental health, and digital security via WhatsApp status. Topics: “Know Your Rights,” “Mental Health Resources,” “Online Safety for Queer People.” Partner with 3 allied creators to widen reach.
2. Safe Peer Support Circles
Facilitate 2 moderated WhatsApp groups of 8-10 vetted members each. Weekly check-ins, affirmations, and referrals to counselors and legal aid. All materials distributed encrypted.
Expected Outcomes:
Reach 100+ people online. Engage 20 people in safe peer groups. Increase knowledge of safety practices.
Sustainability:
Trained moderators will continue groups post-project. Content will be reusable.
Monitoring & Evaluation:
Monthly moderator reports + analytics on reach and engagement.
