.We believe that there are many components to a successful education. For this reason we have helped build the school library collection as well as introduced CHESS into the elementary classroom at Chuk Muk. To make this possible we visited numerous thrift stores in Canada to find second hand chess sets.
We has a lot of fun explaining the game of chess to the students and we were impressed with how quickly they picked it up.
Chess is important because it improves mental prowess, helps develop thinking skills and has been shown to directly contibute to acedemic performance. Learning to play chess improves the ability to think rationally and while the students are learning thoughtfulness and patience, they are having a great time.
