By Sarah Wanjiru Njenga | TIES Kenya Representative and Project Leader
Hello friends, we trust your holidays are going great. We are grateful for this chance to once again share with you all what has been going on with our TIES Kenya University sponsorship program for girls. As we close the year 2025, there is a lot to share and to be grateful for: Another 4 of our girls graduated in October and November. Emma, Sharon, Maureen and Faith. Bringing the total to 5 graduates in the year! Out of the 7 beneficiaries who started the program in September 2021, 6 have all completed their studies and graduated, one awaits graduation next year, God willing. I thought to myself what better way to describe our work, the value and impact it brings than to hear it directly from one of the girls. Below is Maureen's story.
My Journey with Technology in Education Society/ TIES Charity
In 2021, after I completed my high school education successfully and passed KCSE exams excellently, I was placed to join Maseno University. My desire to pursue higher education was strong, but the financial reality posed a significant challenge. Being brought up in a humble background by an employed single mummy in a family of 6 kids, managing to enroll me to the university was far beyond what she could afford. Like many young girls in Kenya, I faced uncertainty about whether my academic dreams would become a reality. It was during this critical moment that TIES Charity https://ties.charity/ became a turning point in my life. Being selected as a beneficiary of the TIES scholarship program marked the beginning of a journey that have shaped my future in ways I had never imagined.
With the support of TIES Charity, I enrolled in a Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management with Information Technology at Maseno University. From my first year through to the completion of my degree studies, TIES Charity consistently stood by me through fully providing my school fees, partly paying my rent, meals and transport fees, also catered for all other academic needs like providing a laptop, facilitating all academic projects and events. Their sponsorship relieved the financial burden that often limits student’s ability to focus on their studies, allowing me to fully commit myself to academic excellence, personal growth, and leadership development.
Beyond financial assistance, TIES represented belief in my potential as a young woman and in the power of education to change lives. This encouragement motivated me to persevere through challenges, remain disciplined, and strive for success. Each academic milestone I achieved was strengthened by the knowledge that I was supported by an organization dedicated to empowering girls through education. On 14th November 2025, I proudly graduated with a bachelors of Science in Human Resource Management with Information Technology, a moment that symbolized not only my personal achievement but also the fulfillment of TIES Charity mission to uplift and empower young women. This accomplishment stands as a testament to what is possible when opportunity meets determination. My graduation was not just the end of a university journey, but the beginning of a new chapter shaped by the values and support instilled in me through TIES.
Today, as a degree graduate, I carry with me a deep sense of responsibility and gratitude. My journey with TIES has inspired me to aim higher, give back to society, and serve as a role model to other girls who may be facing similar challenges. I am committed to using the knowledge and skills I have gained to contribute positively to my community and to be an ambassador of the impact that educational support can create. My story is one among many, but it reflects the powerful difference TIES continues to make in Kenya and other developing countries worldwide. Through their commitment to girl’s education, lives are transformed, futures are secured, and generations are empowered.
A big thanks to TIES Charity Canada our program donor and GlobalGiving for giving us a platform, a community of support for our cause and work. Thank you, our friends and supporters who have supported us in kind, in thought and cheering us on. Asante sana. Sending you all our warmest regards, blessings and love as the year 2025 ends and we start a new year 2026.
