Dear GlobalGiving Community,
We are thrilled to share the latest updates on the 'Menstrual Dignity for Refugee Women' project with you. Your investment in providing menstrual health resources, education, and care is vital to achieving gender equality. Especially for women and girls in refugee situations. As our program activities progress, Days for Girls (DfG) continues to make a significant impact on the lives of more refugee women, girls, and people with periods. We are deeply grateful for your unwavering support.
Gaza is currently experiencing unprecedented levels of violence and destruction. Over 34,000 Palestinians have been killed, and more than 78,000 injured, with women and children constituting more than half of the fatalities. The blockade of essential supplies has led to severe food insecurity and a collapsing healthcare system, exacerbating the suffering of the population. In this context, the delivery of Days for Girls Kits has been critical in addressing the immediate menstrual health needs of women and girls amidst such an acute crisis.
Our most recent project focused on sending DfG Kits to Gaza. We sent 2,500 DfG Kits through our local partners, Medical Aid for Palestinians. Additionally, we partnered with Lifting Hands International to send 3,726 DfG Kits to those affected by the devastating circumstances in Gaza. These kits provide essential menstrual health support, ensuring that women and girls can manage their periods with dignity and safety.
As of 2024, Jordan has hosted more than 1.3 million refugees, making it the second-highest country in the world for refugees per capita. While the majority of refugees are Syrian, Jordan also hosts refugees from Iraq, Yemen, Sudan, and Somalia. Refugee women and girls navigate menstrual health challenges that are specific to the context and environment of the camps they reside in, often including lack of privacy and inclusive water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) infrastructure, inadequate menstrual supplies, and lack of information. Our ongoing partnership with Medical Aid for Palestinians has been instrumental in providing DfG Kits to this vulnerable population. For several years, we have been supplying these kits, and trained midwives are teaching menstrual health education during kit distribution. This holistic approach ensures that recipients not only receive the necessary supplies but also gain valuable knowledge about menstrual health.
Asylum seekers carry the scars of war and displacement with them. The process of seeking asylum is long and arduous, often involving numerous obstacles, including barriers to employment, language difficulties, and limited access to basic services. Recognizing these challenges, alongside our partners, Solidarity Engineering, we have supported the menstrual health of women and girls living at the asylum seeker camps in Mexico by distributing 100 Days for Girls Kits and providing menstrual health education sessions for the participants. These Kits are a crucial part of our effort to support their health and well-being during their journey to safety and legal status.
We deeply appreciate your contribution and your generosity. Days for Girls is built around people like you, committed to actively making a change in people’s lives. Your support is the cornerstone of our success, and we couldn't achieve our mission without you.
Thank you for playing your part!
With heartfelt gratitude,
The Days for Girls Team
