Summary

The project is a response to the climate disaster that occurred in October 2025 in northern Veracruz, Mexico. We will provide immediate assistance to 7,281 people from 66 indigenous communities who lost all their belongings and crops. We will be able to keep Radio Huayacocotla broadcasting in four indigenous languages, provide food, clothing, tools, and building materials. We will replace lost coffee plants and supply agricultural inputs in order to restore their main source of work.

Challenge

From October 7 to 11 of this year, an emergency arose in northern Veracruz, caused by heavy rains associated with a non-cyclonic tropical system, which led to flooding, landslides, and river overflows affecting more than 40 municipalities. There is an unknown but high number of fatalities, swept away by the floodwaters or buried by landslides. The most affected families are struggling to leave the area to seek refuge with relatives in other towns.

Solution

Maintain communication between affected communities via Radio Huayacocotla and telephone. Coordinate the delivery of food, hygiene items, and clothing donated. The acquisition of: corn to survive while rebuilding what is possible, zinc sheets for roofing of conditioned housing or shelters, construction materials and tools for repairing damaged houses. Replace coffee plants lost due to landslides and provide agricultural supplies in order to promote the full recovery of their main source of work.

Long-Term Impact

Sixty-six communities in six municipalities will be served, with a total of approximately 7,281 people.
