Your valuable contribution enables Afrika Tikkun to create pathways of upward mobility for the most disadvantaged youth living in the township communities of South Africa. With your help, we have empowered the young population to break the cycle of poverty and access employment opportunities. One of our proud beneficiary is Elizabeth, who is successfully pursuing her professional goals.
Elizabeth is 23 years old and lives with her parents and three siblings in Orange Farm township of South Africa. Her father lost his job which brought a lot of financial pressure on the family, as he was the main breadwinner. Elizabeth had to discontinue her education in electrical engineering as her parents could not afford to send her to college. She was referred to Afrika Tikkun’s Youth Skills Development and Placement Program through her friend. She registered for our ‘Ready to Work’ course, that enables young people like Elizabeth to receive relevant job skills and practical experience that they need to secure employment.
Elizabeth appreciates the training and the hands-on experience she received through our program. Now, she not only is job ready but have also learned other social and emotional life skills, that will help her excel in her career. This confident young woman is now working in a Health and Safety Learnership (work based learning program).
Afrika Tikkun’s Youth Skills Development and Placement Program focuses on unemployed young people from disadvantaged communities between 19 and 35 years. The program provides the young and unemployed with Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills, career guidance, job readiness training, job placement and access to bursaries for further learning. To date, the program has trained over 4000 unemployed young people and has facilitated the placement of approximately 40% of them in various opportunities including learnership, internships and entry level jobs.
We thank you for your ongoing support in creating opportunities for our youth. Your investment allows our programs to implement innovative strategies to address the many socio-economic challenges they face in their communities and ensure their sustainable future.
Warm regards,
Mehdeen Sehgal
