Hi there,
I wanted to share a heartwarming story that shows why your support for our Save a Homeless Person from the Southern Winter project continues to matter.
Meet Pedro, a 75-year-old man living in Puerto Aysén, in the far south of Chile. After working for decades in hotels and restaurants, Pedro faced difficult times that eventually led him to seek refuge at a Hogar de Cristo shelter. But he wasn't alone. By his side was Pepa, a dog he had rescued from the streets, cared for after an injury, and who became his most loyal companion.
When the shelter's management was transferred to the local municipality in August 2025, Pedro had one essential concern: he wanted to make sure that both he and Pepa could stay together. He personally approached local authorities and received the reassurance he needed: there was room for both of them.

This transition represents an important step toward ensuring the continuity of shelter and care for people experiencing homelessness in one of Chile's harshest winter regions. While the municipality assumed responsibility for the shelter, Hogar de Cristo maintained its commitment to specialized support for people facing homelessness and social exclusion.
Pedro's story reminds us that dignity is not only about having a warm bed or a meal. It is also about protecting the relationships, companionship, and sense of belonging that give life meaning.
Your generosity helps us continue working toward a future where people like Pedro can find safety, compassionate care, and the opportunity to rebuild their lives without leaving behind those they love.
Thank you for being part of this mission and for helping us bring warmth and dignity to the southernmost corners of Chile.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Hogar de Cristo
