Implementation: Youth Renaissance Organization for the Care of the Marginalized in Yemen

Funding Organization: GlobalGiving

First Quarter Report 2025

Report Writer: Akram Al-Shara'bi

Date: may 15, 2025

1. Introduction:

The Youth Renaissance Organization for the Care of the Marginalized is pleased to present this report on the project to provide 320 meals to marginalized children under the title "Healthy Nutrition," implemented during the First Quarter Report 2025. This project aims to promote healthy nutrition and a healthy lifestyle for marginalized students and their families in Taiz Governorate.

2. Project Objectives:

  • To provide 320 healthy meals to marginalized students regularly during the First Quarter Report 2025 To raise awareness about the importance of healthy nutrition among students and their families.
  • To improve the health and nutritional status of the targeted students.

3. Implementation:

The Youth Renaissance Organization sought to expand the scope of the project by conducting an initial survey and establishing a preliminary database of marginalized students in Taiz Governorate. The number of registered marginalized students reached approximately 29,000, distributed across all districts of the governorate. The organization is currently developing an effective strategy to address this number.

In addition, the organization coordinated with the Education Cluster in the governorate and is working jointly with them to plan a project that includes both marginalized and non-marginalized students.

In 2025, the organization will launch additional projects through the GlobalGiving platform with the support and supervision of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Yemen, which expressed its commitment to supporting the organization's humanitarian projects after visiting its office in Taiz.

The organization also conducted a broad community awareness campaign in marginalized communities about the importance of psychological support for them and their student children. This campaign included activities designed by specialists and consultants. The organization is currently seeking to develop this strategy by attracting more support and applying what was learned from the Lightful Academy with support from GlobalGiving.

An agreement has also been reached with the War Child organization to expand the project and submit it to the European Union for consideration. It is currently under study.

4. Results and Challenges:

Results:

  • Significant progress has been made in supporting marginalized students in the governorate, despite limited resources.
  • A preliminary database of marginalized students has been created at the governorate level in all districts.
  • Coordination with the Education Cluster has been established to expand the targeting scope.
  • The psychological well-being of marginalized individuals and children has improved through awareness campaigns.
  • Coordination with the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Yemen has taken place, and the issues of marginalized people, including students, have been discussed.
  • The health, social, and psychological capacities of some students have been enhanced, and their participation in school activities has increased.

Challenges:

  • The project's reliance on in-kind and cash donations creates a shortage in providing meals and maintaining distribution.
  • There are other needs for students, such as school uniforms, school bags, and family awareness, in addition to the needs of families to support their children's continued education, such as addressing family poverty and their reliance on child labor.
  • There has been a significant increase in student turnout this year after workshops.
  • The lack of operational expenses for the organization creates difficulties that will be overcome with the support of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

5. Lessons Learned:

  • The importance of building partnerships with local and international organizations.
  • The need to develop a sustainable funding plan for the project.
  • The importance of providing psychological and social support to students and their
  • families.

6. Recommendations for Future Projects:

  • Expand the scope of the project to include a larger number of students.
  • Provide training programs for families on the importance of education and healthy nutrition.
  • Seek to provide scholarships for outstanding students.

7. Recommendations:

  • Continue to support the Youth Renaissance Organization in presenting its future projects through the GlobalGiving platform.
  • Support the organization with technologies, tools, and experienced volunteers in fundraising.
  • Provide ideas and suggestions to expand the targeting scope.

8. Conclusion:

We thank GlobalGiving and all partners and contributors to this project for their effective contribution to achieving our goals and supporting marginalized students in Taiz. We also thank the donors and those in charge of the platform. We must continue to work together to build an equitable society that believes in the right to education for all.
