21st Century skills in Nigerian public schools

Since 2020, The Notable, Outstanding, Bold, Leaders Extraordinaire (NOBLE) Club has been working on developing exemplary citizens and instilling moral values in Public Primary School Children through practical, interactive, and creative learning sessions on seven (7) selected themes (Leadership, National Identity, Communication, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, Role Modelling, and Reading). 

Every year at the beginning of the school session, we enroll Primary 6 school children across our four (4) Learning Resource Centres (LRCs) in Public Schools into the Noble Club to gain the essential 21st-century soft skills they need to thrive. Since 2020, we’ve had over 356 beneficiariesoftheNobleClub. As is the tradition, we enrolled the new Primary 6 class students across our LRCs into the Noble Club in September, there was an induction session, where the children were officially enrolled into the program, and club leaders chosen. 

Two (2) main topics; Leadership and Career Choices were covered across different learning sessions before the schools went on their year-end break. The leadership sessions are designed to equip the children with the skills they require to grow into good leaders with the facilitators using prominent leaders; past and present as case studies. The Career Choices sessions are designed to explain to the children the countless career opportunities they can lean towards and help them see beyond gender norms in choosing their career paths. 

Every session of the NOBLE club takes our beneficiaries one step closer to acquiring the necessary 21st-century skills they need to thrive and with your support, we know we can continue to make a difference in the lives of the children we serve.

The Notable, Outstanding, Bold, Leaders Extraordinaire (NOBLE) club continues to make efforts to achieve its goal of creating a safe space for students in public primary schools by providing them with access to non-classroom learning, exposing them to the 21st century soft skills required to thrive. We kicked off the 2024 second learning phase as schools opened in May with a puzzles and bonding session.

The children across our three (3) Learning Resource Centres in the three different public primary schools in Abuja where we hold the Noble Club sessions for primary 6 pupils were paired into groups and each group was given an educational puzzle ranging from a puzzle of the world map to one about animals. They were tasked with completing the puzzle within a set time limit, improving their ability to work effectively in a team and their problem-solving skill.

After all teams had put together their puzzles, our LRC facilitators asked the children to check out other teams and view their puzzles, then asked and answered questions related to the puzzle contents. The session ended with the children having learned new things while having fun putting the puzzles together.
