Dear GlobalGiving Community,
We had a couple of amazing community screenings this past month. Kamara Town is a big community along the Western Rural Peninsular divided along political lines between the two main political parties, the main opposition political party (All Peoples Congress) and the ruling party SLPP (Sierra Leone People’s Party). This screening was geared towards strategically influencing both party leaders, while mitigating confrontations during the screenings, allowing candid and open conversations.
To ease the tension and ensure a successful screening, we had to divide the screening into two. We had two separate screenings; the first one was for members, supporters, and community leaders from the ruling party SLPP.
We discussed the political will power to address the main issues of the film, such as illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing activities in our waters, Food security, migration, fish scarcity, loss of livelihood. The audience reacted very positively, even though reactions started off defensive and finger-pointing, but it slowly transitioned to an open and honest conversation. Very proud to be able to facilitate this necessary conversation.
Kind Regard,
Barmmy
